Featured Band Member-July 2006
Denise Buffa
Denise Buffa is originally from Mount Holly, New Jersey, and is one of four children born to Joseph and Joan Tiver. In 1982, she married her high school sweetheart, Billy Buffa and together they moved to Eastampton, New Jersey. They now reside in Jobstown, New Jersey with their two beautiful and talented daughters, Katie and Kristine. You may already know Kristine as our lead snare. Denise works at Springfield Township Elementary School where she is a teaching assistant in Kindergarten.
In addition to being a founding member of Greater Trenton Pipes and Drums, Denise and her husband and fellow pipe corps member, Bill have taken upon themselves the demanding duty of being our official Business Manager Team. Since the first days of Greater Trenton, all business arrangements for Greater Trenton Pipes and Drums have been handled smoothly, efficiently and professionally by the partnership of “Buffa and Buffa.” Denise takes care of everything from making the contact with the parade committees, negotiating a contact and fee, relaying all information concerning the parade (ie. directions, step-off times, required personnel, etc.) to the band and baking “Blueberry Buckle” for post-parade celebrations. Team Buffa demonstrates outstanding leadership and business-savvy qualities and we would be lost without them taking care of all the incidentals.
Denise’s piping career began approximately six years ago. Originally dubbing herself, “future piper,” Denise has proven through her hard work and dedication that she is indeed the REAL thing! She participated in the EUSPBA Mid-Atlantic Branch Delco Workshop and has attended the Metro Cup in Newark for a number of years. Denise and husband, Bill have also donated their time as designated van and truck drivers for all parades, field trips, events and performances in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York. I can’t tell you how nice it is to see a large vehicle waiting for us at the parade’s end on a particularly HOT or COLD afternoon. We truly appreciate all the extra effort, planning and selflessness that Denise and Bill contribute.
Denise is enormously proud of her two pumpkins, Katie and Kristine. Katie has just completed her freshmen year in college and Kristine will be a senior this year at Northern Burlington Regional High School. We all enjoyed the Princeton University P-rade this year when the entire Buffa family, even Katie on the pipes, joined forces to march through the soggy, hallowed campus of Princeton University. That’s one we won’t soon forget! Right, Katie?
Denise Buffa is always the “life of the party.” Her quick wit and contagious sense of humor make any situation incredibly fun. She is a skilled piper, a dedicated teacher and a loyal friend and boy, can the girl DANCE!
Denise is a HUGE fan of the Beatles (giggle giggle) but if forced to choose her absolute favorite song, it would have to be “Brick House” by the Commodores.
Her favorite master piper is Alasdair Gillies, whom she has heard perform on numerous occasions. Favorite pipe tune is anything played by her hunka hunka burnin’ love, Billy.
Denise, we salute you as band member of the month for July 2006. We love ya, Baby (from your YaYa sisters.)
